- About Splice…
-
- Splice is a Tabby NetMail-compatible utility which will merge the contents
- of two to four text files into one output file. This is useful if you want
- to combine a dynamic file, such as Quote of the Day, and a static file,
- such as an informational message, into one System or Welcome message.
-
- To set it up, use ResEdit to modify STR resources 500-505. 501-504
- contain the names of the input files. 504 contains the name of the output
- file. 500 contains the name of your BBS application.
-
- If you only want to merge fewer than four files, leave some input file
- strings empty -- empty strings are ignored. If you want to merge more than
- four files, use multiple copies of Splice.
-
- In operation, Splice kills the output file, creates a new empty output
- file and then appends each valid input file to the output. If it
- encounters an error opening or closing one of the files, it closes the
- output, stops reading input and quits gracefully, launching the next event
- if there is one.
-
- Because it is written in a rather bulletproof fashion, it can be run as a
- stand-alone or BBS external application in addition to its ability to run
- as a TabbyNet event.
-
- Splice was written in Think Pascal.
-
- Version 1.2 is a code cleanup (and it's less than half the size of the
- original release).
-
- Version 1.3 adds the ability to merge up to four files.
-
- Version 1.31 properly handles input files without final carriage
- returns.
-
- Splice is available free for registered users of my utilities, but is
- ©1990 by me. It is not Shareware or Freeware or Public Domain and cannot
- be further distributed by anyone without my specific permission.
